The Dale Hayes Golf Academy at Zwartkop Country Club is headed up by Elsabe Hefer, a nominated Top 10 Teacher in South Africa, and her assistant, PGA member Kobus du Preez.
We also have a very active Junior Golf Academy which has as its mission statement -“To expose golf to more young people with the aim of growing the number of Junior Golfers; to make golf both affordable and fun and to teach them to play better golf with the aim to nurture it into their game of a lifetime.” The Academy has over 100 junior golfers enrolled as students, which attend group or individual lessons.
Junior Academy lessons are held at Zwartkop in the afternoons and on Saturday mornings, during the public school terms. Lessons are for one hour each week and there are never more than eight students allocated to a coach. The lessons include long game, chipping and bunker play as well as putting. The students rotate to do the long game one week and the short game the following week. We have students as young as four years of age, and really try to teach them in a motivating, friendly and fun environment. Lessons are R550 per quarter, and include participation in a monthly Open Day where all the students are welcome to come and play nine holes. Younger students must be supervised by an adult, and we shorten the course for them.
Advanced junior classes are also held during the school term, and these are three hours long. The children receive coaching for approximately an hour and a half and then go out to play a few holes (sometimes as many as nine holes, depending on how busy the golf course is). The coaches go out onto the golf course with them, so apart from the fun of playing, they are also taught rules, etiquette and course management. These lessons are R1100 per quarter.
Adults, seniors and ladies are also most welcome. Strong emphasis is placed on the basics of the swing, which gives a good grounding for beginner golfers and helps to lower the handicaps of established golfers.
Individual lessons are R200 for a half hour lesson and R350 for a one-hour lesson. A Beginners golf package which includes ten lessons is R1600.
